The Agency Playbook: SXSW ’26 Recap, Your Toolkit, and a New Look

Whether you’ve been on this journey with us since we began or we just connected in Austin, welcome to the team! SxSW EDU was an incredible rush of energy and critical conversations. Our time at SXSW has inspired us to refresh the newsletter. We are officially the Creating Learners newsletter, now called "The Agency Playbook."Why the shift? As the AI landscape evolves, we must move beyond just sharing tools and focus our energy on building Student Agency. Austin confirmed that literacy in the age of AI isn't about generating text, it’s about empowering human critical thinking and ownership. As we promised the SXSW audience, here are the resources from the "What Does it Mean to be Literate in the Age of AI" session. For those who couldn't be with us, we will post snippets from the presentation on social media soon. Till then, we hope the session material inspires you to try something new.

It's incredible how much of a difference it makes when students feel genuinely connected to their learning, isn't it? This issue is all about helping you foster that sense of ownership, agency, and self-efficacy right from the start of the year. We've got three thought-provoking reads on personalized learning and AI, two brand-new AI Activity Cards designed for those early days back in the classroom, and one go-to tech tool we've been loving.
